ABOUT · FOUNDER STORY

Built in Austin for the after-hours gap local services keep falling into.

Plumbline is a founder-led after-hours layer for the small and mid-market service businesses the per-seat SaaS stack forgot. After-hours booking, qualification, and follow-up that pays only when it produces the measurable outcome the front desk wanted. Below: who is behind it, why local services specifically, and how we got here in five quarters.

Founder-led. Austin-built. Outcome-priced.

FOUNDER BIO

Marcus Reyes

Founder & Operator · Austin, TX

Before Plumbline I ran the operations seat at an Austin HVAC shop that doubled in two years — and I was sitting next door to a dental practice whose after-hours voicemail I could hear on Saturday nights. The pattern was identical: the 9 p.m. caller with the busted compressor and the 10 p.m. caller with a broken crown were the highest-intent leads of the day, and both of those calls were going to the next Google result by morning. I built what we needed — an after-hours layer that picks up inside the first ring, qualifies by the vertical's actual knobs (zip and tonnage for HVAC, pain-and-time for dental), and hands the front desk a booked outcome instead of another callback to make at 8:30. Once one office was using it the right way, the next one called us. That is the company.

  • Background

Operations and field-dispatch chops from running an Austin HVAC shop. Built call routing, weekend on-call, and Saturday no-cool triage by hand — learned what was missing before AI ever touched it.

  • What triggered the build

A Saturday 11 p.m. no-cool call into the dental office next door. The front desk closed at 6, the patient was in pain, and the next dentist on Google booked a $4,800 crown the next morning. That single lost call cost more than our quarterly tools budget.

  • The working constraint

No per-seat SaaS, no monthly retainer for voicemail coverage. Pricing tied to the outcome the front desk actually wanted — the booked chair, the routed dispatch, the signed retainer — and refunded if it didn’t land in 30 days.

WHY LOCAL SERVICES

Why an after-hours shop for five specific verticals — and not another generic CRM layer.

The thesis is narrow on purpose. Local service businesses have a lead funnel that looks nothing like B2B SaaS, e-commerce, or enterprise sales — and the highest-value conversion in that funnel arrives after the office has already closed for the day. The shop that picks it up books. The shop that doesn't loses it to the next Google result by morning.

Plumbline bets on local services for one reason: the highest-intent lead of the day is the after-hours one, and the small and mid-market service businesses that own those leads — one-FTE dental offices, four-truck HVAC shops, solo medspas, two-partner law firms, single-agent real-estate teams — are the ones whose front desk has already gone home. We do not compete with Salesforce or HubSpot. We pick up the call they are not built to answer.

Dental

The after-hours crown patient is more valuable than the noon hygiene recall, and the front desk that closed at 6 p.m. is the one whose caller booked the next dentist on Google the next morning. Same-day emergencies and hygiene no-shows funnel through the same after-hours lane — the playbook qualifies both and books whichever one fits the open chair.

HVAC

Saturday-night no-cool callers in Austin are not browsing — they are shopping by tonnage, zip, and how fast the truck rolls. The first shop to text back with a price window books the dispatch. The second one gives a quote Monday and a competitor has the work order by Tuesday.

Medspa

Injectable and laser consults buy on impulse after a Saturday-night scroll. The medspa that answers the 9 p.m. text with a deposit link books the Saturday-of treatment — and the medspa that doesn't loses a $1,400 visit to the next Google result by morning.

Law firms

Solo and small-firm intake happens at 11 p.m., after the kids are in bed and after the daytime paralegal missed the call. The firm that qualifies the lead by practice area and zip, and books the consult on the spot, signs the retainer fastest. The voicemail that asks for a callback loses it to the next firm that answered.

Real estate

The Sunday-night Zillow buyer browsing Round Rock listings wants to see the property Monday. The agent who texts back with showing-ready qualification — lender pre-approval, zip window, move-date — books the showing. The agent who replies Tuesday with "sorry for the delay" doesn't.

MILESTONES

Five quarters from a Round Rock dental office to a three-market after-hours shop.

Plumbline shipped one vertical at a time, in the order that the front desks called us. Below is the owner's view — what was wired, what broke, and what we would do differently next time.

  1. 01

    Q1 2025

    Plumbline founded in Austin.

First workflow: after-hours hygiene recall for a single Round Rock dental office. Migrated off a $480/mo live answering service in week one — the front desk got 14 recovered hygiene bookings in the first month.

  2. 02

    Q2 2025

    Dental vertical formalized.

After-hours intake, hygiene recall, and same-day emergency triage — wired to Open Dental and Dentrix. Three practices live, two on the waitlist, and a repeatable playbook we could take across town.

  3. 03

    Q3 2025

    HVAC vertical live.

No-cool dispatch, weekend on-call routing by zip, and tonnage-and-urgency qualification that filters out the homeowners shopping by price alone. Heating season onboarding started in November — same playbook, different urgency knob.

  4. 04

    Q4 2025

Medspa + Law firms verticals live.

Consult-booking + treatment qualification for medspa (HydraFacial, laser, injectables), and intake-to-retainer-ready routing for solo and small-firm law practices. Booking-after-9-p.m. inbound tripped on both at once.

  5. 05

    Q1 2026

Real-estate added; San Antonio + Dallas rollout.

Showing-ready qualification for buyer and listing inquiries — lender pre-approval, zip window, move-date. Austin playbook tuned city-by-city and shipped to San Antonio and Dallas; same vertical stack, different geography.
